Chess 101 - Your guide to this game
#4 - The Rook5/4/2020 The RookThis the second most powerful piece in the game after the Queen. The way the rook moves is quiet easy to understand and it in the start of the game, it resides at the end of the board, next to the knight. How does it move?It moves only in a straight line, and it cannot hop over a piece. if an opponent's piece is blocking its way it either has to kill it or move around it That's it for today, next time, we are going to learn about how the Queen moves.

#3 The Bishop3/21/2020 BishopsToday, we'll be talking about another new piece - The Bishop. The Bishops movement is pretty straight forward and it resides right next to the Knight at the start of them game. How does the Bishop move? The Bishop moves in a very ordinary way, it moves in a diagonal direction depending on the square it resides in at the start of the game, if the Bishop starts on a dark square, it can only move on the dark one and if it starts on the light squares, it can only move on the light squares. The Bishop cannot hop over pieces. Look at the picture below
#2 The Knight3/7/2020 KnightThe Knight is the 2nd piece I will be talking about today. Here's where is resides at the start of the game - How does a Knight move? Knight moves in a very peculiar way: It moves three squares in a L shape. And what's special about this piece is that it can jump above pieces that lie in its way. Don't get me? Here's a picture to show you how it moves - It can only kill other pieces if its on the end of its move (At the crosses on the picture above), it cannot kill other pieces if it's not at the end point of it's move.
#1 - The Game Itself And The Pawn2/15/2020 Chess is a strategy-based board game that all ages may play. It requires you to use your whole brain to figure out your opponent's next move. The goal is to 'checkmate' the opponent's king. We'll get to know later but for now, Let's get to the icebreakers. The Pieces Now the board consists of 64 squares all alternating from black and white (some boards may have different color combinations). Heres how it looks like. Both players have 16 pieces - 1 KING, 1 QUEEN, 2 BISHOPS, 2 KNIGHTS, 2 ROOKS and 8 PAWNS. (Sometimes an extra queen) Each of these pieces moves differently and in this post, we will be teaching you the basic movement of THE PAWN The Pawn The pawn has the second most restricted movement in the game after the king. In the picture above, in the second line for the white side, you see 8 pieces of the same design. In the start of the game, the pawn can either move 2 steps forward or 1. After the first move, then the pawn can only move 1 step forward in each turn. THE PAWN CAN NEVER MOVE BACKWARDS. For capturing, the pawn can only capture sideways facing front on either side (right or left). |
